# Active duty and military families

The service member is not the only one doing the tour. Everyone in the house is doing a version of it.

## What is hardest about this life?

Usually it is the switching. Leaving, and the household reorganizing itself without you. Coming back, and everyone quietly renegotiating who does what. Orders that change a plan you had just finished making peace with.

Two things are true at once here more than anywhere. You are proud of the work, and the life around the work is expensive.

## Is it safe to talk about this?

It is a fair question and I would rather you ask it than swallow it. What you bring into the room is treated with care, and I will be clear with you about how confidentiality works and what its limits are before we begin, so you are deciding with the full picture.

Nothing about coming here says you cannot handle your job. Most of the people I see are handling far too much and have been for years.

## Can my spouse or my kids come too?

Yes. Sometimes the most useful hour is the one with the partner who has been running the house alone, or with a teenager on their fourth school. We can work individually, as a couple, or as a family, and move between those as the need changes.

We set goals together that are specific and achievable, and we build them around your real schedule, not an ideal one.

## Common reasons families reach out

- Preparing for a separation, or reconnecting after one
- A partner carrying the household, the logistics, and the worry at the same time
- Children who act out before a departure and go quiet after a return
- Decisions about staying in or getting out, and what each would cost
