Why I do this
I served 27 years in the United States Army and watched capable people hold themselves together far past the point anyone should. A lot of people in the military, if we need help, they do not understand us in the civilian world. I do not need that explained to me, and it saves us both time.
How I work
Plainly. I ask direct questions, I tell you what I am seeing, and I expect you to tell me when I have it wrong. My primary approach is dialectical behavior therapy: two opposing things can be true at once. Therapy stops being a fight once you can hold both.
What you can expect
- Straight answers, including when the answer is that I am not sure yet
- Goals in your words, small enough to actually start
- Respect for your pace
- An honest referral if someone else fits better
