Kearney

If you live in Kearney, sessions happen online. Omaha, home to the only office, is close to three hours east on I-80, so video is usually the practical choice, and the office is there for anyone who makes the drive.

What is online therapy like from Kearney?

It is a full session by video. We talk, I ask questions, we work on skills and goals, and the only thing missing is the drive. Kearney sits on I-80 in central Nebraska, close to three hours from Omaha, so for therapy every week or two, video is simply the realistic option.

You need a device with a camera, a reliable connection, and a place where you will not be overheard. That last part is often the hardest one, and it deserves some planning.

How do I find privacy in a dorm or a shared apartment?

Kearney is home to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and if you are a student you may be living with roommates, thin walls, or family down the hall. A session needs a space where you can talk without lowering your voice. A parked car, a room you can lock, or an hour when your roommates are out can all work.

If privacy is hard to find, we talk about it directly rather than pretending it is not an issue. Headphones help, and a fan or white noise outside the door helps more. What matters is that you can say the real thing.

Can therapy help with college pressure?

It can. College stacks a lot into a few years: exams, money, living away from home for the first time, relationships, and big questions about who you are and what you want. Some of it is exciting. Some of it is heavy, and that can be hard to admit when everyone around you seems to be fine.

I will talk to you plainly, the way I would talk to any adult. We look at what is actually making things hard, practice DBT skills for the worst moments, and set goals that are specific and achievable, sized for a semester rather than a perfect life.

What if I am not a student?

Kearney is much more than a campus. If you are working, raising a family, caring for a parent, or running a business, online sessions can fit around that too. Couples and family sessions work by video as well, whether everyone shares one screen or joins from separate places.

Whatever you bring, from anxiety and low mood to grief, burnout, or a relationship under strain, the approach is practical. My primary method is DBT, and the aim is a life you actually want to be living, not one that only looks fine from the outside.

Can I see you in person?

Yes, at the Omaha office. If a trip brings you to Omaha for family, work, or an appointment, we can meet in person while you are there. Otherwise, video keeps the work going between visits.

Getting started is simple. Send a short message saying what is going on. There is no online calendar, so we find a time in a conversation that works around your classes or shifts, and the first conversation is a free consultation.

How online can fit life in Kearney

  • Sessions between classes, from a parked car or a quiet room
  • No six hour round trip every week
  • Couples sessions from one couch or two different places
  • The same therapist through the whole semester
  • An in person session when you are in Omaha anyway

Questions people ask

Can we keep meeting if I go home for the summer?

Yes, as long as you are in Nebraska or Rhode Island when we meet, because those are the states where I am licensed. If home is somewhere else, we can talk ahead of time about what that means for your sessions and plan for it together.

Will my parents be involved?

If you are an adult, the sessions are yours, and your parents are not involved unless you want them to be. For teenagers, parents are usually part of the picture, and I am clear with everyone up front about how privacy works, including its limits.

What if I am not sure therapy is for me?

That is a reasonable place to start. The free consultation is there so you can ask questions, hear how I talk, and decide without pressure. If it does not feel right, you have lost nothing but a short conversation, and you will know more about what you are looking for.

Where to go from here

Ready when you are.

Therapy starts with a conversation. Send a short message and tell me what is going on, in your own words. We meet in person in Omaha, and online across Nebraska and Rhode Island.
